The choice of B&W and the presence of the gate really make this photo. Each adds to the cold and forbidding mood, working together to make the sum effect greater than the total of the components.

@Damon: Hi Damon, thank you. I use the CanoScan Lide 80. I'm quite satisfied so far. But I bought it a couple of years ago and I don't know how the market is right now.
Great shot. The Black an white still gives us wonderfull pictures
